CCTV operations and surveillance
Learn how to operate CCTV systems effectively, monitor public spaces and use surveillance techniques to identify and track incidents.
Incident identification and response
Develop the skills to recognise suspicious activity and incidents, assess situations and respond appropriately within your role as a CCTV operator.
Legal, regulatory and professional responsibilities
Understand the legislation, regulations and professional standards that govern CCTV operations, including data protection, privacy and the appropriate use of surveillance.
Evidence, records and control room procedures
Learn how to maintain accurate records, produce an evidential audit trail, manage CCTV information and follow effective control room and handover procedures.
The qualification consists of two mandatory units covering common security industry knowledge and the specialist knowledge and practical skills required for CCTV operation.
Qualification Structure
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual and awarded by Highfield Qualifications. To meet the SIA licensing requirements, you’ll complete two mandatory units combining knowledge assessment and a practical demonstration of operational CCTV skills.

Flexible finance for eligible learners
Not everyone is eligible for ELCAS funding, and many learners simply want a more flexible way to pay for their training.
Do I need any prior experience in security or CCTV?
No. This course is the recognised entry point into licensed CCTV operation and is designed for those new to the industry as well as those moving from other roles.
What does the practical assessment involve?
You will operate professional-grade CCTV equipment in a control room environment, demonstrating your ability to monitor incidents, track individuals using PTZ cameras, produce evidential images and complete the required documentation. The assessment is conducted at our Bagshot training centre.
Can I hold both a CCTV licence and a Door Supervisor licence?
Yes. Many security professionals hold both. Completing the DS course alongside or after CCTV significantly broadens your employment options.
What happens if I fail the practical assessment?
You may resit the practical assessment. You do not need to repeat units you have already passed. Your training provider will confirm resit arrangements.
