Understanding the private security industry
Gain an understanding of the legislation, professional standards and responsibilities that apply when working in private security. You’ll cover SIA licensing requirements, health and safety, safeguarding, counter-terrorism awareness, emergency procedures and the importance of accurate record keeping.
Working as a professional door supervisor
Develop the knowledge needed to work confidently in licensed premises and other security environments. You’ll learn about licensing law, search procedures, queue management, drugs awareness, venue safety and the responsibilities of a Door Supervisor.
Conflict management and de-escalation
Learn how to identify potential conflict, communicate effectively and reduce the risk of situations escalating. Through practical exercises and realistic scenarios, you’ll develop the skills to manage challenging situations professionally and safely.
Physical intervention skills

Qualification structure for your Highfield Level 2 Door Supervisor course
This qualification is regulated by Ofqual and awarded by Highfield Qualifications. To meet the SIA licensing requirements, you’ll complete four mandatory units combining knowledge, practical skills and physical intervention assessment.

Principles of working as a door supervisor | The role and responsibilities of a door supervisor, licensing law and premises licences, drug misuse legislation and identification of drug use, rights to search and search procedures, queue management and venue capacity control, evidence preservation and reporting. |
Application of conflict management in the private security industry | Conflict management principles, situational awareness, identifying pre-incident indicators, de-escalation communication techniques and procedures relating to workplace violence. |
Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry | The legal framework governing the use of force, approved physical intervention techniques and scenario-based practical assessments assessed to a required standard. |
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is either integrated within this programme or required as a prerequisite. This will be confirmed in your joining instructions upon booking.

Can I work as a Security Officer with a Door Supervisor licence?
Yes. An SIA Door Supervisor licence qualifies you to work in both door supervision and security officer roles.
Do I need prior security experience to attend?
No. This course is the recognised entry point into licensed door supervision and is designed for those new to the industry as well as those upskilling from other roles.
I already hold a Security Officer licence — do I need to complete the full DS course?
Holders of a current Security Officer licence may be eligible for a top-up route rather than the full qualification. Contact us before booking to confirm your eligibility.
What happens if I fail any of the units?
You can resit individual failed units. Your training provider will advise on resit arrangements. You do not need to repeat units you have already passed.
